| Abstract in Brazilian Portuguese: | Trabalho em que se faz um levantamento, não exaustivo, das acepções que o termo função tem conhecido em Lingüística, particularmente nas abordagens de cunho funcionalista, cujos princípios foram, inicialmente, formulados no fecundo período do Círculo Lingüístico de Praga (CLP) e, posteriormente, desenvolvidos por Martinet e Jakobson. Outras acepções, como as de Halliday e Hjelmslev, são igualmente mencionadas, a fim de destacar-se a polissemia do termo em textos de caráter lingüístico. |
| Abstract: | This is a work in which we do a research, not exhaustive, about the notions that the term function has known in Linguistics, particularly in functional approaches, whose principles were, at first, formulated in the fertile period of the Prague Linguistics Circle (PLC) and, after, developed by Matinet and Jakobson. Other notions, like the ones of Halliday’s and Hjelmslev’s, are equally mentioned, in order to emphasize the polysemy of the term in linguistics texts. |
