Abstract

To understand the context in which Salvador tourist center was established it is necessary to release information on the cultural life of the city at that time. Bahia was an ever present theme in the arts and a supporting actress in each artist's debut. Bahian intelectuals and entrepreneurs insist with the state government to make the tourist dream come true. Foreigners undertake helpful tasks, such as “Thom Bar”, a meeting point for Bahian intelligentsia which was a combination of bar, restaurant and night club, and also a stage for the shows of local youngsters. Some of these would conquer the national midia and public in the short run.
